Café & Baking

semester 1 & 2

Do you have a passion and interest in café culture and baking? Would you like to discover the art of coffee making, patisserie and baked goods? This fun, exciting and creative Semester long course allows you to focus on savoury breads, pastries, current café food and coffee trends. Each week classes will explore the science, economics, history and the possible futures of the café and baking world. This subject will also explore entrepreneurial possibilities across the hospitality sector.

This subject will develop the skills required to become a Baker and a Barista as well as how the two occupations can interact. You will use a range of ingredients and seasonal produce to create a designed product. Your learning experience will be individualised through the design process including the planning, costing and evaluation of your product.

As part of the learning experience you will have the opportunity to participate in an excursion to local cafes, bakeries or food manufactures to experience a real world industry environment.

Café and Baking suits the novice to the experienced as it is designed and developed for the skills of each student. Students can take it to develop their skills be it for personal growth and or as part of an academic pathway to VET hospitality and VCE Food Studies.
