Graphic Design Elective

It is recommended that students undertake this subject at FLE1 – FLE2.
Love being creative? Interested in illustration, app design, object design, architecture, interior design or designing solutions for real-world problems? Graphic Design is a fun, hands-on subject where you will tackle real-world design briefs through creative thinking and visual communication to create innovative and visually impactful solutions.
Throughout the year, you will strengthen your understanding of Design Elements and Principles and work through the design process to create exciting projects using both manual and digital techniques. You will develop your skills using industry-standard software, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and SketchUp, while building a portfolio of creative work. You will also explore the work of influential designers and analyse design trends using design terminology, to gain a deeper appreciation of design in your everyday life.
Semester 1 – Messages & Interactive Experiences
Explore how design informs, engages or advertises to viewers. Projects may include:
Brand identities and logos
Posters and advertising
Packaging
Digital graphics and illustrations
Websites and app interfaces
Semester 2 – Environments & Objects
Explore how design shapes the spaces and products around us. Projects may include:
Architectural and interior design
Product and furniture design
3D models using SketchUp
Laser-cut products
Sustainable and circular design
Along the way, you'll:
Develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Learn about typography, colour, layout, and composition.
Explore the work of contemporary designers and current design trends.
Document your ideas, research and design development in a folio.
Build confidence and skills using professional design software.

Please note: Students will need a device that supports the installation of Adobe Creative Cloud applications, such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. These applications are provided free of charge.
Pathways include Pre VCE Visual Communication Design which leads to VCE Visual Communication Design.
