Music Performance

(Foundations in Music Performance)

semester 1 & 2

Is this you?

  • I love music and want to learn how to play in a band.

  • I am learning an instrument at school or privately.

  • I am in the first two years of my musical journey.

  • I want to learn musical skills while jamming with my friends in a group setting.

  • I want to perform in front of my classmates and eventually the school community.

  • I want to explore songwriting.

The Music Performance elective is a foundational performance subject focused on building essential musical skills in a contemporary setting. Students will participate in workshops, sing in a large group, play instruments and learn a range of effective and fun pop, folk and rock songs. Throughout the semester, students will work towards forming bands with their classmates and learn songs of their choice. The class will involve regular performances for the class as well as lunchtime concerts for the school community.

In order for students to be able to come together and rehearse competently, we require all students to enrol in instrumental music lessons either at the College or externally. Small group instrumental lessons at the College are available at the heavily subsidised rate paid as an annual fee. Students then have the skills to practise the songs they are learning at home and are able to come to class prepared and confident for rehearsal.

What instruments can you use in this class?

The answer is: any instrument. Our instrumental program offers tuition in:

  • Piano

  • Voice

  • Guitar/Bass guitar

  • Drums

  • Woodwind/Trumpet

  • Violin/Viola

If you love music, this subject is for you. Research shows that students who take part in a music program are often the best-organised and this can transfer to success in everything else you do.
