Purpose

Humanities is the subject that helps you make sense of the world you live in, how power has shaped history, how democracy runs, and why population and cities keep changing. It is not just about the past; it is about understanding the world you’ll be navigating for the rest of your life! As a citizen, voter, employee and consumer. 

UNITS OF WORK

Ancient Civilisations (Egypt + one other civilisation)

Students will be introduced to the historical skills using historical sources and constructing a chronology of events, and then investigate Ancient Egypt and one other ancient civilisation of their choosing to look for the features of early societies and the historical and cultural significance in modern society.

Natural Disasters:

Students will investigate the ways that human activity can impact on various landforms and landscapes and the ways to protect them, before writing and presenting a news report on a natural disaster and learning about ways to respond to a geographical hazard.

Creating a Society

Students investigate how societies develop and form their own identity and what it means to be a civic citizen. Students will investigate what it means to be an Australian, learn about Australia’s rich history and importance of Country and other diverse perspectives before creating their own society.
