Music Bands and Beyond

For FLE1 – GRAD Musicians of ALL levels and experience

Do you love music? Do you want to sing and/or play an instrument in a band? 

Are you ready to go from the garage to the gig?  

Music Bands and Beyond is for musicians of all levels and experience. Whether you are a beginner, have been learning an instrument for a few years, or are already doing gigs, this subject allows you to progress at YOUR level, with YOUR band mates, playing the style of music that YOU like.   

If you have studied Stage and Beyond in 2026 or earlier, Bands and Beyond gives you even more opportunities to develop your skills and achieve your potential.   

We are looking for students who want to:   

  • Get on stage and improve their performance skills   

  • Broaden their musical experience 

  • Dive into fundamental aspects of musical theory that relate directly to improving performance  

  • Write, record, and publish their music 

  • Prepare for VCE Music if desired 

This is a performance subject! 

Each term, students will be required to participate in the many performances that happen within the TC Music Community, from lunchtime concerts and busking opportunities to formal assemblies and evening concerts. Students will be supported to perform in a way and setting that suits their level and experience.

Instrumental Lessons

To go from the garage to the gig, we require that all students enrol in an instrumental lesson either at TC, or externally. Small group instrumental lessons at the College are available at the heavily subsidised rate paid as an annual fee. Students then have the skills to practise the songs they are learning at home and are able to come to class prepared and confident for rehearsal.

  • ANY INSTRUMENT! Whilst contemporary voice and rock band instruments are more common, any instrument can be played in a band. Description text goes here

  • In order to give students the maximum opportunity to choose music across the whole timetable, we have created a super subject called Music Bands and Beyond which can accommodate students at different musical levels. You will find yourself in a band with musicians of a similar level.

  • Yes! It is possible to choose both Bands and Beyond and VCE Music. Both classes require lots of practice and can differ significantly, so it is important to understand that you will need considerable time in your week to practice for both classes.
