Applied Engineering
Semester 1 or Semester 2
Learn all about how mechanical systems help us in our day to day to day lives and how these mechanisms work whilst learning valuable skills to apply to your own projects!
This subject provides a foundational understanding of key engineering principles through their practical application in various fields. Students will explore core concepts rooted in mechanics, including forces, motion, and energy, and observe their real-world impact. The curriculum delves into the fascinating world of human powered vehicles such as bicycles, recumbent bikes and skateboards etc analysing their mechanical design, stability, and efficiency.
A second focus will be placed on the operation and characteristics of 2-stroke engines, examining their internal combustion process, power delivery, and typical applications. Furthermore, the subject introduces fundamental principles of basic automotive systems, covering essential components such as drivetrains, braking systems, and suspension, and their role in vehicle performance and safety.
Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical examples, students will develop a comprehensive appreciation for how engineering principles underpin much of the modern world around them.
You'll also gain valuable knowledge in:
Project Management: Learn how to plan, schedule, and budget for real-world projects.
Tools and equipment: Discover the correct method and application of common hand and power tools
Fabrication processes: Learn the basic skills of fabrication and working with mechanical systems. You will get your hands dirty!
Get real-world experience:
Excursions: Opportunities to visit various workplaces (auto mechanics, fabrication), events (like Formula 1), and school engineering competitions. See how real-world engineers work in high pressure environments.
Applied Engineering is perfect for you if:
You enjoy working with your hands, Being creative and problem-solving.
You are interested in a career in Mechanics or Engineering
You want to learn valuable skills that will benefit you in any future career path.
Don't just dream it, Engineer It!
