Cafe Culture
semester 1 & 2
Suggested prior learning – Food Technology
Are you interested in advancing your hospitality skills and learning how to provide excellent customer service? Do you love ‘plating up’ and creating and presenting food in a palatable way? Do you want to become an expert barista and perfect your latte art? Then this is the subject for you!
Each week classes will explore the economics, history and possible futures of the café scene and explore entrepreneurial possibilities across the hospitality sector.
You will use a range of ingredients and seasonal produce to create a designed product such as a breakfast plate, menu or smoothie. Your learning experience will be individualised through the design process including the planning, costing and evaluation of your product.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in an excursion to a local cafe or restaurant to experience a real-world industry environment.
Students can take Café Culture to develop their own food preparation and presentation skills, self-management and communication skills for personal growth or as part of an academic or career pathway to VET hospitality and employment in the hospitality industry.
