Subject Overview

Do you want to better understand your own health and wellbeing while exploring the health issues affecting young people today?

This subject is designed for students who are interested in learning about health, making informed decisions, building healthy habits, and developing practical skills that can be applied to everyday life. Students will investigate a range of contemporary health topics and explore how personal, social and environmental factors influence health and wellbeing. The subject aligns with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and provides an excellent foundation for further study in Health and Human Development.

Throughout the year, students will develop their health literacy, critical thinking and communication skills while working collaboratively to investigate real-world health issues and create practical solutions.

Topics you will investigate include:

  • Dimensions of health and wellbeing

  • Nutrition

  • Safety

  • Respectful relationships

  • Alcohol, vaping and other drugs

  • Health promotion

Learning experiences are practical, collaborative and inquiry-based. Students will apply their understanding through activities such as designing health promotion campaigns, creating infographics and digital resources, analysing health case studies, investigating current health issues, presentations, and completing project-based assessments that connect classroom learning with real-world health challenges.

This subject is ideal for students who enjoy discussing current issues, working collaboratively, and learning about health in ways that are relevant to their own lives and communities.
