Pre-VCE Product Design & Technology:

Are you creative, love solving problems, and enjoy making things? Do you want to build awesome projects and get a head start on VCE Design & Technology? Then Pre-VCE Product Design & Technology is for you! 

This year-long subject is your bridge from general Design Technology to the exciting world of VCE Product Design and Technologies. You'll gain the foundational knowledge and practical skills you need to confidently tackle VCE Units 1-4.  

In this subject, you will: 

  • Become a Design Thinker: Learn the "Double Diamond" design process to identify needs, solve problems, and create amazing solutions.  

  • Master New Tools: Get hands-on experience with advanced 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC fabrication, and a wide range of workshop tools and equipment.  

  • Bring Ideas to Life: Develop your sketching, technical drawing, and 3D modelling skills to create and present your design ideas.  

  • Explore Materials: Dive deep into different materials like wood, metal, plastics, or textiles.  

  • Design with Purpose: Understand how things like aesthetics, sustainability, and user needs influence product design.  

  • Build Your Portfolio: Learn to document your entire design journey, from research to finished product, just like a real designer.  

  • Make Really Cool Stuff! You'll design and fabricate several projects throughout the course, increasing in complexity and sophistication. 

This subject is perfect if you're ready to take your design skills to the next level and prepare for VCE, or if you're interested in future careers in design, engineering, architecture, and other creative industries 

The course content will be structured around the key stages of the design process, progressively building complexity and depth in line with VCE expectations. Potential modules include:

Proposed Learning Tasks 

Assessment will be designed to mirror the types of assessment students will encounter in VCE Design and Technology, focusing on both process and product.  

Assessment tasks may include: 

  • Design Folio Development: Ongoing submission and assessment of sections of a design folio documenting the design process for practical projects. 

  • Practical Projects: Assessment of designed and produced products based on criteria derived from the design brief and school-based assessment standards. 

  • Research Tasks: Investigation and presentation of findings on specific design-related topics.
