VCE VET ICT: Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology Partial

The ICT30120 Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology Partial completion is aimed at a limited number of Unit 1 and 2 students who will be taking part in the Junior IT Support Rover Program over a span of two years. Students within this program will undertake a timetabled work placement on the Templestowe College IT Service Desk, providing IT support to all members across the TC community.

Junior Technicians that are part of this program will also partake in one VET class per week to refine their theoretical and practical IT knowledge and skills. Units 1 and 2 of this course are unscored and will allow the Technicians to achieve a statement of attainment from the TAFE, while Units 3 and 4 are scored (unless selected otherwise).

The selected Core and Elective units that are bundled with this partial completion certificate in Year 1 and 2 come from the streams of Applications, Support and Web Technologies. All Core and Elective units will assist the Junior IT Support Rovers at Templestowe College with the building of their IT technical knowledge at a basic help-desk support level.

Pathways and career opportunities

Junior Technicians participating in the Junior IT Support Rovers Program VET course will:

  • Explore active listening techniques within IT customer service

  • Explore IT consultation and promotion of IT participation

  • Establish maintenance processes, log and maintain desktop and laptop PCs using standard diagnostic tools and CompTIA hardware troubleshooting practices

  • Determine and action network problems using OSI layer troubleshooting techniques

  • Learn to operate and support various TC SoE application software packages

  • Establish professional social-networking practices

  • Establish their own blogs

  • Create professionally formatted IT instructional documentation

  • Provide IT advice to clients and log client incidents and requests in a job-management system

  • Install/re-image and optimise operating systems via various forms of media

  • Implement and monitor environmentally-sustainable work practices in IT

  • Build a simple website using the Adobe CC Suite, as well as learn HTML, Basic PHP and CSS

Over the course of two years, Junior Technicians will develop their interpersonal and customer-service skills, coupled with learning the basic building blocks to IT troubleshooting, its methodologies and techniques. It offers Junior IT Support Rovers who partake in the course a great opportunity to interact with our wider community and have involvement in the various events that TC offers. It is a great introduction to different aspects of IT including design, support, customer service and troubleshooting. This course will lead students into participating in a Certificate IV in Information Technology or Website Design.
