Pre VCE Art Creative Practice

year long

In Pre VCE Art (Creative Practice), students will build an awareness of how and why artists realise their ideas through different visual arts practices. They will refine a personal aesthetic through working and responding perceptively as an artist and will identify and explain how artists and audiences interpret artworks through explorations of different viewpoints.

Students will make and respond to visual artworks.

Students will study traditional and contemporary styles of art works and reflect on the historical and cultural contexts that influence the work.

Students will explore a range of new skills and techniques in a variety of materials and artforms.

Students will learn to identify and analyse the art elements and art principles in their own work and in the work of other artists and will be able to interpret the way the formal elements have created visual aesthetics.

Students will also have the opportunity to work collaboratively in teams and working in a community setting. They will develop designs for artworks to give back to the TC community. This Pre VCE course encourages students to work independently, collaboratively and with and for the community. It sets the foundation for preparing students for VCE Unit 1 and 2 and is linked to the studies of Visual Communication and Design, Design and Technology, English literacy skills, Philosophy and Psychology. Pre VCE Art (Creative practice) is also a strong beginning to finding a career in the creative and design industry.

2D and 3D art forms will be explored including drawing, painting, printmaking, digital media, mixed media, collage, installation, sculpture and ceramics. Students will record and document their exploration in the form of a written and visual diary. They will document the materials, techniques, methods and processes used for each artwork and discuss the success of the work using art language. Students will also undertake a research project during the semester.

Students understand the relevance of building, developing and maintaining a visual diary along with the creation of producing artworks. The Pre VCE Art (Creative Practice) course provides a solid foundation for VCE Art (Creative Practice) Units 1-4.
