Subject Overview
Content and ideas:
Within this subject you will create a range of creative, analytical and personal texts in response to content explored in class. Each class starts with a grammar mini-lesson, improving student writing across the year. The course covers a breadth of texts and themes, relevant to student interests and experiences. Within Entry English, you will also have the opportunity to personally choose a book from a wide selection, in turn facilitating peer discussions and further enhancing their skills and knowledge.

Typical class activities for this subject include grammar mini-lessons, varied writing exercises, reading texts (individually and in groups), building collaboration skills and extending understanding.
Skills focus:
At the end of this subject, you will be able to write analytically, creatively and reflectively, respond to the ideas seen in texts as well as demonstrate the conventions of punctuation, spelling and grammar. You will also be able to demonstrate the verbal conventions of discussion and persuasion while boosting collaborative skills with classmates and reading a variety of texts to challenge and extend your knowledge.
Assessment Tasks:
For your assessment tasks in this subject, you will respond to a variety of texts through analytical and creative writing, have regular progress check-ins and take up roles and actions in group tasks.
