Science Investigations (NEW in 2026)
Semester 1 or Semester 2
You have already completed Entry Science and Solutions or another Science elective and are looking for a next step in your science journey at TC (but aren’t quite ready to jump into a Pre-VCE Science). It sounds like Science Investigations is for you!
This course is designed to build on your existing laboratory, problem solving and science communication skills and will help you to better understand the scientific method and how to design and conduct your own investigations. We will cover concepts in Chemistry and Physics and use lots of cool equipment that you might not have had the opportunity to use before.
We will also have opportunities to discuss development of scientific understanding and the role of models, and the cross over between science and philosophy, as well as develop useful mathematical skills for higher-level studies in science such as scientific notation and rearranging algebraic equations.
Topics we will cover (not limited to)
Using ultraviolet light
Chemistry
Titrations
Spectrometry
Types of chemical reactions
Testing properties of matter
Physics
Engineering challenges
Electricity
Properties of light
Energy efficient housing
Perpetual motion
Relativity and other ideas about the universe
