VET Certificate II Permaculture

Certificate II in Permaculture is a hands-on course for students who want to understand how food, water, soil, plants, animals, people and the environment all connect. You’ll develop practical skills while exploring some of the big challenges facing our world — from climate and extreme weather to biodiversity, soil health and food security.
From tools to big ideas
You’ll start by getting stuck into practical outdoor work and gradually build your knowledge and confidence. Along the way, you’ll learn about:
Working in Ecological Services — Use hand tools safely, observe weather, maintain equipment and take part in ecological restoration.
Know Your Bioregion — Investigate the environment and Country around you, collect information and build workplace communication skills.
Basics of Food Production — Grow plants, improve soil, propagate seedlings, test soil pH and explore how plants, animals and growing systems work together.
Obtain a Yield — Take crops from planting to harvest, use efficient irrigation, collect and store seed, record your results and explore careers in the industry.
This isn’t just about planting a few vegetables. You’ll learn to observe, experiment, problem-solve and make decisions based on what is happening around you.
Where could it take you?
The skills you develop can lead towards further study and careers in horticulture, agriculture, nurseries, landscaping, conservation, ecosystem management, sports turf, community food systems, sustainability and on-Country land management.
Eligibility
There are no formal prerequisite subjects. Permaculture Farm and Garden is a helpful stepping stone. Students must turn 15 by 30 April 2027.
