Entry Health and Physical Education
Entry Health & Physical Education (HPE) is a movement-focused program designed to develop students' physical literacy, confidence and understanding of healthy, active lifestyles. Students are exposed to a broad range of movement experiences that develop fundamental movement skills, teamwork, decision-making and confidence across a variety of contexts.
The program provides students with opportunities to experience different types of physical activity and movement, allowing them to discover activities they enjoy and develop skills that can support lifelong participation in physical activity.
Students participate in three (3) HPE sessions per week, consisting of:
Two (2) practical movement-based sessions – focused on developing movement and sport-specific skills, cooperation, tactical thinking and participation through a diverse range of activities and movement experiences.
One (1) Health session – focused on developing students' knowledge, understanding and skills to support their health and wellbeing.
Across the year, students will experience a variety of individual, partner and group activities, with an emphasis on participation, skill development, collaboration, problem-solving and applying movement concepts.
The Health component complements the practical program by helping students understand the factors that influence their physical, social and emotional wellbeing and develop the knowledge and skills required to make informed and healthy decisions.
Overall, Entry HPE aims to establish a positive foundation for movement and wellbeing, encouraging students to be active, confident and capable participants while developing an appreciation for the role that physical activity and healthy choices play in lifelong health.
