Pre VCE Health and Human Development

Eligible year levels: FLE 3. It is strongly recommended that FLE 2 students who wish to take a Pre-VCE in the HPE space, complete the corresponding elective prior. 

Student task requiring them to care for an egg baby. Students personalised their egg and complete diary entries identifying positive and negative experiences they faced each day.

Subject Overview 

Are you considering studying VCE Health and Human Development or pursuing a career in health, medicine, allied health, nursing, education or community services? 

Pre-VCE Health and Human Development is designed for students who have a strong interest in health and would like to build the knowledge and study skills required for success in VCE Health and Human Development. These subject bridges the gap between the Year 9–10 curriculum and VCE by introducing key health concepts alongside the analytical and academic skills used in senior studies. 

Students will investigate health from both an individual and population perspective while developing the ability to interpret health data, analyse evidence, evaluate health strategies and communicate using appropriate health terminology. 

Topics you will investigate include: 

  • Health and wellbeing and Health status 

  • The human lifespan 

  • Australia's health system 

  • Population health and health inequalities 

  • Global health and the Sustainable Development Goals 

  • Health promotion 

Learning experiences combine practical investigations with VCE-style learning activities. Students will complete inquiry projects, analyse real health data and case studies, evaluate health promotion initiatives, develop evidence-based responses, create health campaigns and presentations, and practise the written and analytical skills required for VCE Health and Human Development. 

This subject provides an excellent pathway into VCE Health and Human Development and supports students considering future careers in health, medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, psychology, public health, exercise science, education and other health-related fields. Throughout the course, students will strengthen their research, data analysis, communication and critical thinking skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the factors that influence health in Australia and around the world.
