Entry Mathematics

Year long

Students in this class will engage with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 at Level 7.

In Entry Mathematics, students build on their existing knowledge and confidence to develop a deeper understanding of key mathematical concepts. Based on a point-of-need teaching philosophy, students are introduced to the Maths Pathway platform, which combines rich tasks, regular energisers, mini lessons and a number of projects.

Our point-of-need approach ensures that each student receives an individualised program with each element of the course tailored to meet their needs using explicit instruction, small group mini lessons and ‘low-floor, high ceiling’ rich tasks.

Real-life problem-solving is an important part of the course, with students using mathematics to make connections, create solutions, and explain their reasoning in a variety of situations.

Students will develop a wide range of skills and knowledge across the six Mathematics strands: Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability with a goal of achieving more than 12 months of growth across the year.

This course encourages students to become confident, curious learners who can apply mathematical thinking to both familiar and new challenges.
