Maths Skills

Year long

Applied Maths is a hands-on course designed to help students build confidence and capability in mathematics through engaging, real-world learning experiences. It supports students in developing numeracy skills at a steady pace, with a focus on making maths meaningful and useful in everyday life, future education, training, and workplace settings.

Students strengthen their understanding of numbers through practical activities involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, and money. They learn to apply mathematical skills to everyday situations, including budgeting, shopping, planning, and solving problems that arise in personal and community contexts.

A strong emphasis is placed on applying maths to real-life situations. Students learn to identify the mathematics needed in a situation, select appropriate strategies, evaluate solutions, and communicate their thinking clearly. Through this process, they develop confidence in applying mathematics independently and effectively.

The course explores measurement and geometry through practical tasks involving length, area, volume, time, location, and shape. Students use appropriate tools and units of measurement to investigate and solve problems connected to familiar situations and environments.
